In the UK, the uptake of the flu vaccination in the over 65 age group is more than 70% each year. In past years, the vaccination could easily be obtained in surgeries and pharmacies. In 2020 Covid-19 has made the situation slightly different as many of this age group are advised to shield, in other words, to stay at home.

For individuals who want to visit their surgery or pharmacy, there are a range of measures that will be taken to keep this age group safe: appointments to shorten waiting times, social distancing in place, some ‘drive-in’ models are possible and for those who are on the high risk for Covid-19 a home visit can be arranged. Not all areas of the country will have the last two models in place, however, if you would like to consider the ‘drive-in’ model or believe you are eligible for a home visit, call your local GP surgery and ask.
