(Update: The show is no longer on air)
A special radio programme especially for Able Community Care clients started in November 2010.
The new show aims to bring a smile to clients and their carers by giving them the chance to request music, place dedications, and hear useful advice from Able.
The idea behind the show comes from Tim Mitchell, who has admired the work the team at Able do since hearing about the organisation earlier in the year.
"I came across Able Community Care through my work as Marketing Manager promoting jigsaws at All Jigsaw Puzzles. I was really impressed by what Angela and her hardworking team do and that struck a chord with me", says Tim.
In his spare time, Tim has been involved as a volunteer with internet radio station, Radio Wey. The station originally started as a radio service for hospitals and care homes over 40 years ago and Tim says he’s seen first hand how people being cared for have been cheered up by music.
"Our work providing shows for people being cared for is reeally special - seeing people’s faces light up when they hear their name and music is amazing" says Tim. "I hope with the new show we will be able to do the same for Able clients as we have done with our other listeners."
The station has thousands of songs, some of which aren’t available in the shops anymore. According to Tim, music can help bring back memories and there is scientific evidence that it has positive effects too.
"I would like to thank Angela too for mentioning the new show and letting listeners hear the really important information that Able provides for their clients and carers", says Tim. "I can’t wait to hear Able client’s choices and dedications. I hope also the programme will become a virtual place that people can visit perhaps when they need bit of company."
As well as requests and information for Able clients, there is a chance for listeners to play the popular Stranger Than Fiction competition. There’s also The Comedy Legends Casebook, where Tim looks the lives of famous comedians, such as Ronnie Corbett and Dara O’Brien.
The By The Wey show can be heard every Saturday 8pm-10pm, repeated on Thursday 3pm-5pm on www.radiowey.co.uk. Music requests can be anything including from classical, jazz, through to pop and rock.
Please note that the 'By the Wey Show' is no longer on the air.
